The Whale’s Tail team consists of three Ventura based artists. Michelle Stevens, who had the initial idea, is an award winning Photographer and Designer who is also the founder of The Refill Shoppe, an Eco-Friendly Bath, Body, Home and Cleaning Store, located in Downtown Ventura.
Ryan Kaercher, who designed and helped bring her idea to fruition, is an award winning filmmaker and designer with numerous production design credits to his name who has been working in the film industry since 2006. Tyronne McGrath, the head fabricator who’s metal shop (Steel Creations) served as building head quarters, is an award winning metal sculptor who’s work has been showcased at the Ventura County Fair and various other venues and festivals since 2000.
The three teamed up on the Whale’s Tail project to help spread awareness of plastics pollution in our oceans and help bring to light how detrimental single-use plastic is to our environment through art. The team were the recipients of the 2015 P.L.A.C.E. (Public and Local Artists Create Environments) artist grant given by the City of Ventura.
