Marlene Suzanne Bremner was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1983. She is a self-taught artist with no formal art education, working primarily with oil and acrylic paints. She received a BA in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 2005, and later went on to study holistic medicine and bodywork at the Institute of Holistic Health Careers in Columbus, Ohio. This background provides inspiration for much of her subject matter.
Her paintings are vivid explorations of psycho-emotional and alchemical transformation, both personal and universal. Meticulously detailed and reverential depictions of flora and fauna, physical and energetic anatomy, sacred geometry, and esoteric symbols are contained within symmetrical and flowing compositions. The symbolism in her paintings is influenced greatly by her studies of alchemy, tarot, astrology, energy medicine, psychology, and plants.
Marlene has been living in the Pacific Northwest for the last seven years and has shown her work in both group and solo exhibitions in Olympia and Seattle, Washington, and Eugene, Oregon. She grew up in a family of artists, including her uncle, Michael Ehle, who was a well-known painter in Seattle. She currently lives in Olympia, Washington.
My paintings are visual aids in the great alchemical work of transmuting the spirit. I spent many years studying energy medicine, and along the way I began painting. My interest in art and healing fused into these paintings, each a representation of specific phases of personal and universal transformation.
These were done in the order of my own natural process; when I needed heart healing, ‘Gates of Paradise’ came through, and when I needed to let go of the past, ‘Death of the Profane’ happened. The healing that I’ve experienced through these images has changed my life and the way I understand reality. In sharing these paintings I hope to provide symbols and diagrams that will be of aid to my fellow mystical seekers.
